We know how to change Windows 7/Vista license key, here are the steps to change Windows XP key.
You may want to change the license serial for various reasons – one common use being to enter a genuine license key on a pirated copy of Windows. You may also need it if you have a volume key to be used on multiple computers. Seeing as how this promotes genuine Windows software, I wrote up this quick guide.
Change Windows XP license serial
There are two methods to change Windows XP product key – use a program that does the job for you, or do it yourselves manually.
Using a software
Download and install Magical Jelly Bean Key finder. It is a free download and helps and retrieve product key of Windows, among other software. It can also change the Windows serial number. It can also be used with Windows Vista, 98, 2000 etc.
Change serial key manually
Power users may not want to install a software to change the license key. You can change it by hand. Follow the steps below:
1. Open Registry Editor
Go to Start > Run > type regedit, hit enter.
2. Edit registry key
In the navigation pane on left side, find and click:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\WPAEvents
In right pane, double-click to modify it. Change any digit of given value. This deactivates Windows.
3. Enter Windows serial key
Again, click Start, and then Run. Type this and hit enter:
%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a
In Windows Product Activation window, click Yes. Then click Change Product key.
Enter your new serial key under New key and hit Update.
If you have an OEM system, repeat step 3 to verify activation (you will see the message “Windows is already activated. Click OK to exit” upon successful activation).
